Hi.
I'm Bereavement Mom

About Section

ABOUT ME

I’m Susie Shaw—a writer, speaker, and mother learning to live after profound loss. My son William died in a ski accident in 2019, and since then, I’ve been writing through my grief. I’m still a mom to him, even though he’s not physically here.

This space, Bereavement Mom, is where I share letters, stories, and the hard-won wisdom that comes from parenting with one foot in two worlds. If you’re here, you may know grief too. I hope you find something that makes you feel a little less alone.

WRITING

I write about:
• Talking to the child you’ve lost
• Parenting the children still here
• Letting go and holding on, all at once
• Finding connection in unexpected places

I speak about parenting after loss, grief-informed communities, and building meaning through service.

Recent engagements include:

  • ABC News feature on family grief

  • NPR segment on continuing bonds

  • Colgate University: “Moving Forward After Loss”

  • Intuit: Grief in the Workplace

FOLLOWING

To learn more about me, my nonprofit William’s Be Yourself Challenge (WBYC), and our grief retreat project The Green House, you can find me in a few places online. I share reflections, updates, and everyday moments of meaning—because grief isn’t one note, and neither is life after loss.
